Description: Within days after Hurricane Irma swept across the Caribbean and Florida, Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico as a strong Category 4 hurricane on September 16, 2017. Within hours, the island was in crisis, and emergency personnel worked frantically to search for victims and render aid. Reports flowed in from multiple municipalities describing villages buried by mudslides. A survey by helicopter was both shocking and heartbreaking.
The US Army Corp of Engineers was tasked by FEMA to provide emergency/temporary restoration of the Power Grid, which took nine months. Brent McGavin was able to assist in this effort as a Project Management Scheduler.
Mr. McGavin will share the amazing experience of working with the US Army Corp of Engineers’ Emergency response team that worked 12 hour days, 7 days a week, restoring Puerto Rico’s Power.
