If you have children or grandchildren then you have volunteered in some capacity for soccer, boy scouts, basketball, cheerleading, little league baseball, football or any other type of extracurricular activity. Trying to get parents to participate to help perform the large number of duties required that it takes to support a volunteer organization can be difficult at best. Can the tools and techniques outlined in the PMBOK be applied to help manage a volunteer organization?
Our speaker this month will reflect upon his time serving on the Farragut Baseball Inc. board and coaching teams at Farragut Baseball. Farragut Baseball Inc. is a non-profit organization located in West Knoxville, Tenn., that has been organizing and administering recreational youth baseball since the mid 1990's. Today, Farragut Baseball Inc. participants range in age from three to 18 years of age. The leagues play at Knox County's Farragut Baseball Ballpark which is located off Northshore Drive across from The Cove. There are 1,300 boys and girls yearly playing the game of baseball. Tom will walk through a season to see that many of the activities involved in administering a league and coaching a team are similar to managing a project. You will see that we can apply many Project Management processes to everyday life.
