ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Mr. Waugh is a local Knoxvillian with an impressive career built on the essence of communication and non-profit leadership. A graduate of Bearden High School, Mr. Waugh went on to complete his Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a Minor in English from Tennessee Tech, and then on to the University of Tennessee – Knoxville where he obtained a Master of Science in Communication. His career with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of East TN began shortly after his graduation from UTK with a focus on partnership opportunities and event planning. His career path briefly left BBBS in 2007 – 2008 when he explored communications as an adjunct faculty as well as a member of their staff, but BBBS would draw him back in. For the next two years, he served as the BBBS of East TN’s Events & Media Relations Manager. Juggling between his love of higher education and his love of BBBS, he was persuaded to transition back over to higher ed. He spent the next seven years working in communications and faculty capacities for different universities, including Colorado State University, The University of Chicago, and Northwestern University. Finally, in August of 2017, Mr. Waugh decided to return home to his beloved Knoxville, TN, and BBBS of East TN. In January of this year, Mr. Waugh stepped into the role of Chief Executive Officer, where he continues to make a profound difference in our local community.
Ms. Dubose is a graduate of East Tennessee State University and serves a critical role in managing BBBS’s events; in the words of Mr. Waugh, she is the “boots on the ground behind our events.” In 2008 Ms. Dubose launched what would become an impressive career in the non-profit sector by joining the Girls Inc. team. It was during her tenure at Girls Inc. as their Food Program Manager that she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Human Services from ETSU. Upon graduating, she followed her passion for youth over to BBBS. She started as the Site Based Match Coordinator, linking up the youth with their “Bigs.” After digging into this role and learning many of the ins and outs of the organization, Ms. Dubose was promoted to the Development Coordinator position. In her new capacity, she is the direct manager of four annual fundraising events as well as BBBS of East TN’s monthly donation program. It is in part thanks to her hard work that matches between the youth and volunteer Bigs can happen.
