APRIL JOINT CHAPTER MEETING ETPMI/AACE
Project Cost Estimating (as a virtualization of the future project)
Presented by: Mike Pratt, Deputy Director, UPF
Date: Tuesday, April 29, 2014, 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Place: Buddies Banquet Hall Bearden, 5806 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN
Many of us are too familiar with the amount of time and resources required to manage costs on our projects, especially when we are managing to estimates that were hastily assembled and did not adequately consider uncertainties. There are many factors that can result with this unfavorable situation and there are many lessons learned and good practices that are proven in managing this important element of the project. The PMBOK addresses cost in three fundamental steps – estimating costs, determining the budget and controlling costs.
This month, we are offering a program that speaks to project cost estimating. Mike Pratt, the Deputy Director for the Uranium Processing Facility at Y-12, will present "Project Cost Estimating as a Virtualization of the Future Project". His overview will include:
- Keys to Success
- Role of the PM in Orchestrating the Estimate
- A Six Sigma Business Case with Results
- Lessons Learned
Mike joined Y-12 in mid-2013 and has 38 years of experience in 38 years of experience in engineering, construction, and project management. His career spans the mining and metals, power, and environmental industries, as well as major Department of Energy projects and missions.
He holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering and an M.S. degree in both mechanical and nuclear engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan. He has maintained Professional Engineering registration in several states, and is recognized as a Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute.
This Chapter meeting is our joint meeting with American Association of Cost Engineers. Be sure to take advantage of this promising program as well as the expanded networking opportunities.
